Sunlight-Readable Ultra-Thin Backlights

LCD Backlighting System and Components. The Divergent Angle Rotator uses total internal reflection to send light out to achieve a very high efficiency. With microprisms on both sides of the light guide, this technology is especially suitable for dual mode backlight operation. Divergent Angle Rotator backlight systems can use CCFL, as well as white, or RGB LEDs, as the light source. We also provide custom-made CCFL lamps, inverters, LED drivers, and other LCD backlight components.

 

Optimum Display Thermal Management
Traditional Backlight: Most traditional backlights position the CCFLs within the viewing area, viewer looks directly at the CCFLs. The AMLCD is heated by the CCFLs positioned adjacent to it. Transfering heat to the backlight chassis and out of the unit is difficult.

Advanced Micro-Prism, Edge-Lit backlight by Clio Technologies: This system positions the CCFLs along the edge of the light guide outside of the viewing area. Viewer does not look directly at the CCFLs.

The change in lamp placement enables heat transfer to the backlight and system chassis. Heat affect on AMLCD is negligable.

CCFL Backlighting

A. Divergent Angle Rotator
A novel divergent angle rotator technology has been developed to convert light from a linear light source, such as miniture incandescent lamps, into a collimated planar light source. This technology eliminates image caused non-uniformity. It allows high energy efficiency, good uniformity, a simple and compact structure, and wide viewing angle in the horizontal and/or verticle direction(s). This novel technology is paticular suitable to convert light from a point like light source, such as LED, to a planar light source.
 
B. Viewing Area Expander:
With the unique Viewing Area Expander Technology, the backlight lighting area can be expanded to give essentially edge to edge lighting. This technology is particularly suitable for applications, such as a square display, where there is essentially no boarder area on the four sides.
C. Dual Mode Backlight
With a NVIS filter, this novel backlight may have two operating modes for day and night vision operation using a single light guide. This dual mode backlight is capable of illuminating a given display area with lights of two different spectrum and intensity.

LED Backlighting

The LED backlight includes white LED and RGB LED. The LED PC Board is made from an Insulated Metal Subtract for heat management. For RGB LED backlight, we provide Color Management.

 

A. Color Management And System Development
Clio provides color management for RGB LED backlights,, and systemdevelopment for backlight modules. For RGB LED color management, a Color Management System Feed Back Controller will be used to give the customer specified color coordinate, or color temperature of the backlight. A light sensor will be used to provide feed back for the color control. A backlight system with optical feed back to control, and maintain the display brightness can also be provided.
B. Heat management
A metal chassis will be designed to dissipate heat generated by the LEDs. No Fan will be need for the backlight.
